To start a small photography business you don't need hundreds of square feets. This video is nice, really.
The main difference between a successful eBay sale and a virtual flop, is based on several things, one of which being a good product photo. Taking a bad photo can make your auction look amateur at best and your bid sizes will show it. You don't need to be a professional with a fancy portrait or photo studio, or even have an expensive digital camera to take great product photos. We've listed a few tricks to help you take product pictures that will help you land the big bids every time.
Make sure your item is very clean. No one is going to bid on a dusty book or dirty toys. It's not uncommon for buyers to leave negative feedback for sellers just because their items arrived with some blemishes on them. Make the item as clean as possible while still being careful not to damage it. Even delicate antique items can be cleaned off with a soft, damp cloth. Do whatever you have to do make the item look its best, or anything else you do won't really matter.
Next you'll want to find a background for the item. The absolute last thing you want is to take a nice picture only to have it cluttered with a bunch of junk in the background. Not only is this distracting and takes away from the picture, but it looks unprofessional. You don't need to go all out either for your background. Use a simple white sheet or fabric. Visit a local fabric store and you can find all types of fabric discounted or on clearance. Look for contrast when picking out colors. For lighter items, a black backdrop would work best, and the opposite for darker items.
